Proposed Home Renovation Tax Credit
As part of the 2009 Budget, the Federal Government announced the Home Renovation Tax Credit (HRTC), which is available from January 27, 2009 to February 1, 2010. You are able to claim a non-refundable tax credit on qualifying home renovation expenses, such as renovations to a kitchen or bathroom, cost of painting, installation of flooring, windows and doors. To see a more comprehensive list, please visit CRA’s website
(www.cra-arc.gc.ca/hrtc/). The HRTC applies to eligible expenses that exceed $1,000, but no more than $10,000.
To simplify this process, place all your renovation related receipts in a file folder, so they are all together when you file your 2009 Income Tax. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office and speak with one of our advisors.
